Simple Good emerged from a commitment to reducing plastic waste and appreciation for products crafted from natural materials. Transitioning from small pop-up events to a permanent store in Port Jefferson in 2019, the shop's growth allowed for the addition of new product lines and a broad selection of goods.
Founder, Melanie Gonzalez, established the Long Island Center for Environmental Activism, a non profit focused on raising awareness of climate change issues. She serves as a Director for Port Jefferson's Business Improvement District and is also a member of Port Jefferson's Economic Task Force, which helps to support fellow small businesses in town. In 2023, Melanie opened a second shop in Port Jefferson called Timber & Ties, which features sustainable apparel and gifts for men.
Giving back is so important to us. Most of the small, family-owned brands you'll find at Simple Good donate a portion of their profits to social causes.
Our customers typically start by swapping out a disposable product for a reusable product and then continue to make more eco-friendly swaps at their own pace.
We often quote the words of Zero Waste Chef Anne-Marie Bonneau:
"We don't need a handful of people practicing zero waste perfectly. We need millions doing it imperfectly."
Simple Good and Timber & Ties are located in the idyllic Chandler Square in Port Jefferson, New York, right across the street from Port Jeff Harbor.
